Press Release: CINE ASIA FILMS ECLIPSE THIS YEARS 30TH HONG KONG FILM AWARDS

THE MOST PRESTIGIOUS FILM AWARDS IN HONG KONG TOOK PLACE LAST NIGHT ON SUNDAY 17TH APRIL 2011. IT WAS A NIGHT TO CELEBRATE AS CINE ASIA’S FILMS AND STARS SHONE AFTER THEY DOMINATED THE NIGHT TAKING HOME A TOTAL OF 10 AWARDS!

The biggest winner of the evening, was veteran Hong Kong director Tsui Hark's superb murder mystery adventure DETECTIVE DEE AND THE MYSTERY OF THE PHANTOM FLAME, winning 6 awards, including Best Director, Best Actress, Best Art Direction, Best Sound Design, Best Visual Effects and Best Costume and Make-up Design.


 "The whole team has worked really hard and put in a lot of effortto make this a spectacular production,"Tsui said after receiving his award, "This award is to be shared with everyone involved."

 DETECTIVE DEE AND THE MYSTERY OF THE PHANTOM FLAME was also nominated for the top Golden Lion Award at the Venice Film Festival last year and received 3 nominations at this year’s 5th Asian Film Awards.

Cine Asia’s hugely successful release, IP MAN 2 was awarded two awards last night, with Sammo Hung taking home the Best Action Choreography award and Cheung Ka-fai winning the Best Film Editing award.

 Cine Asia’s upcoming Blu-ray and DVD release, YOUNG BRUCE LEE also scooped an award at the ceremony, with rising star Hanjin Tan accepting his award for Best New Performer.

Oscar-winning director of photography Peter Pau bagged the honours for Best Cinematography for his work in CONFUCIUS, a biopic starring Chow Yun Fat as the legendary Chinese philosopher.

"I was deeply influenced by Chow Yun-fat during this movie,"
Pau said while receiving the award on stage. "He embodies the very values Confucius teaches and is a very dedicated actor."
